I am not into 'flashy' bling watches, so the earth tones of this watch appealed to me. I also wanted a watch with large numbers to read, no lines, or dots, real numbers. The dark brown base around the face is plastic, but hard to notice unless you inspect is closely. Not a big deal to me. If you push in the adjuster knob, it glows a pale green for night viewing (indiglo). A nice additional feature. The band is very well sewn, hardy, and comfortable. I looked at a lot of watches here on Amazon, and I feel I got exactly what I wanted when I chose this one.

(More customer reviews)This watch has a quality, very comfortable band (nylon lined with soft, water resistant leather) and a nice-looking face, but the case around the face is plastic and looks cheap. In the picture, it appears to match the brown of the strap nicely, but in person the case is much lighter brown and clashes with the strap. I got this for my boyfriend with a couple of other Timex watches to choose from, and he decided on the Expedition Digital Compass which has the same type of strap.
