(More customer reviews)It's difficult to find a watch that meets all my criteria. This holds true of this watch. I wanted a watch under $50 - check; resin strap - check; large digits - check; easy to use - check; and scratch resistant face - not so much. So the watch is great at meeting most of my criteria, but I was disappointed at how easily the display window can scratch. I believe the display material is acrylic plastic. I noticed a fine scratch that shows up on close inspection after only a week. While the display window is protected a bit by being recessed, I can only imagine more scratches as time goes by.
The other annoying thing about this watch is the delay when entering any one of the modes such as Chrono, Alarm, Interval, or Timer. The watch takes about one second to get ready. So during this time, the watch only shows what mode you are entering with a blank display. What this means is that you can't immediately start your chrono timer beacuse of the delay. One second delay may seem short to some people, but I expect the mode to be instantly ready to use.
Aside from those weaknesses, the watch is really nice. It's very well designed with nice placement of buttons, small lettering, and highly legible display. I think this is one of the most attractive and elegant looking Ironman watches I've seen. The material quality aside from the plastic display window is relatively good. I like the fact that the display is recessed and protected by a hardened rubbery crown. This gives the watch decent protection against accidental bumps. Also the rubbery ridge is raised at the sides to protect the buttons from incidental contact. Fit and finish cannot be faulted for a watch in this price range. In other words it feels like a quality watch that is built to last and withstand daily wear and tear.
I like the all black color scheme of this model. It makes it stand out less, and so can be used for many different daily activities or settings. The strap is comfortable and has the right amount of flexibility and thickness. The Flix feature is nice to have, although I generally don't activate it since I prefer to just press the Indiglo button. There is a night mode which allows the Indiglo display to light when pressing any button. This is useful when one wants to use various modes in the dark. To activate either Flix or night mode, one just needs to hold down the Indiglo button for three seconds. As for the readability of the Indiglo I like that it's bright and only lights the digits, not the entire watch face. This looks cooler and stylish to me than the older version of Indiglo.
I find that this watch has all the functions I need on a regular basis, and nothing I don't want. I love the ability to set five different alarms that you can program to go off daily, on certain days of the week, or weekends. Neat! I find that the volume of the alarm is adequate to wake me up in the morning. The chronograph holds 100 laps which is more than I will ever likely need. You are able to store multiple workouts until the memory is full. When recalling the workouts, it's simple to cycle through the laps, and the watch even calculates the best lap and average lap time for you.
One thing I find immensely useful with this watch is the onscreen instructions and clever user interface. You really don't need instructions.. in fact I just toss mine after reading it through once. The interface has words on the display next to the buttons to remind you which buttons you should press. The text blinks to remind you of the mode you are in. You can use the Stop or Start/Split button to cycle up or down, for example when setting up the time or when recalling laps in your workout.
Overall I am very pleased with this Timex Ironman 100 Lap Flix watch. I would buy it again, even considering the few weaknesses I mentioned.
