Timex? T5K288 Men's IRONMAN? 150-Lap TAP Screen Sleek Watch Review

I have bought several of these for my daughters over the years. They are inexpensive, work great and they like them for exercising and timing their runs. This is an upgrade from one that finally quit. They get broken from activity that is no fault of the watch, just active people.

Whether you're pushing yourself towards a qualifying time or a new personal best, the Timex Ironman Sleek 150-lap sports watch allows you to access information without breaking your stride. The cutting-edge performance watch includes everything a sports watch needs, including an oversized display, a huge lap memory feature, a training log, and a Target Time Pacer. As a result, you'll have an edge when training for your next sprint, distance run, or triathlon. The mid-size watch's primary distinguishing feature is its TapScreen technology, which helps you keep your eyes on the trail while you run or cycle. When TapScreen is active, a simple tap anywhere on the watch face will activate the lap timers, so you don't have to fiddle with a bunch of buttons to get to the proper screen. In a sport in which every second counts, the TapScreen function is a vital tool. The watch also includes a convenient Indiglo night mode, which makes early-morning and late-night training even easier. By holding down the Indigo button for three seconds, the watch face will automatically illuminate each time you press any button.
Athletes who want to monitor their workout progress can turn to the watch's Lap Management System, which stores multiple workouts by date. The system keeps records of every lap/split and target time, along with records for your best lap and average lap speed. It also automatically stores workouts from the chronograph, letting you recall, for example, 150 one-lap workouts, one 150-lap workout, or anything in between. Perhaps the most important feature, however, is the Target Time Pacer. This feature helps you maintain your desired pace in a workout or race, so you can achieve your overall time goal. With every lap or distance segment, the watch provides audible and visual alerts to indicate whether your pace per lap is too slow, too fast, or on target. Without even a glance at your watch, you'll hear whether you're on track to meet your goal. As a bonus, the Lap Management System also recalls workout information from the Target Time Pacer, showing how much faster or slower you ran each lap and calculating your total workout time.
Other features include a 24-hour countdown timer; three interval programs, each with up to 16 interval timers with user-selectable interval labels; three alarms, with daily, weekday, weekend, and day-of-week setting options; an easy-to-read display with three lines of text; open vents in the strap to minimize skin contact and increase breathability; and hydration and nutrition alarms, which remind you to refuel at regular intervals to top up essential reserves.

Timex Ironman Traditional 100-Lap w/ Flix System - Black/Silver Watch Review

Timex Ironman Traditional 100-Lap w/ Flix System - Black/Silver Watch

It's difficult to find a watch that meets all my criteria. This holds true of this watch. I wanted a watch under $50 - check; resin strap - check; large digits - check; easy to use - check; and scratch resistant face - not so much. So the watch is great at meeting most of my criteria, but I was disappointed at how easily the display window can scratch. I believe the display material is acrylic plastic. I noticed a fine scratch that shows up on close inspection after only a week. While the display window is protected a bit by being recessed, I can only imagine more scratches as time goes by.
The other annoying thing about this watch is the delay when entering any one of the modes such as Chrono, Alarm, Interval, or Timer. The watch takes about one second to get ready. So during this time, the watch only shows what mode you are entering with a blank display. What this means is that you can't immediately start your chrono timer beacuse of the delay. One second delay may seem short to some people, but I expect the mode to be instantly ready to use.
Aside from those weaknesses, the watch is really nice. It's very well designed with nice placement of buttons, small lettering, and highly legible display. I think this is one of the most attractive and elegant looking Ironman watches I've seen. The material quality aside from the plastic display window is relatively good. I like the fact that the display is recessed and protected by a hardened rubbery crown. This gives the watch decent protection against accidental bumps. Also the rubbery ridge is raised at the sides to protect the buttons from incidental contact. Fit and finish cannot be faulted for a watch in this price range. In other words it feels like a quality watch that is built to last and withstand daily wear and tear.
I like the all black color scheme of this model. It makes it stand out less, and so can be used for many different daily activities or settings. The strap is comfortable and has the right amount of flexibility and thickness. The Flix feature is nice to have, although I generally don't activate it since I prefer to just press the Indiglo button. There is a night mode which allows the Indiglo display to light when pressing any button. This is useful when one wants to use various modes in the dark. To activate either Flix or night mode, one just needs to hold down the Indiglo button for three seconds. As for the readability of the Indiglo I like that it's bright and only lights the digits, not the entire watch face. This looks cooler and stylish to me than the older version of Indiglo.
I find that this watch has all the functions I need on a regular basis, and nothing I don't want. I love the ability to set five different alarms that you can program to go off daily, on certain days of the week, or weekends. Neat! I find that the volume of the alarm is adequate to wake me up in the morning. The chronograph holds 100 laps which is more than I will ever likely need. You are able to store multiple workouts until the memory is full. When recalling the workouts, it's simple to cycle through the laps, and the watch even calculates the best lap and average lap time for you.
One thing I find immensely useful with this watch is the onscreen instructions and clever user interface. You really don't need instructions.. in fact I just toss mine after reading it through once. The interface has words on the display next to the buttons to remind you which buttons you should press. The text blinks to remind you of the mode you are in. You can use the Stop or Start/Split button to cycle up or down, for example when setting up the time or when recalling laps in your workout.
Overall I am very pleased with this Timex Ironman 100 Lap Flix watch. I would buy it again, even considering the few weaknesses I mentioned.

Timex 8-Lap Shock Resistant Ironman Triathlon Fitness Digital Watch Review

Timex 8-Lap Shock Resistant Ironman Triathlon Fitness Digital Watch

I owned an original Ironman watch for years and liked it. This is an improved version one of the of the original "sports watches." Like the original, this one is very light although it's a little bulkier. The buttons on this one are much easier to press and seem more durable. The display is very easy to read and it has some type of reflective background that really makes the digits stand out. At night the Indiglo light is very handy. The Velcro strap is easy to put on and it has a little bit of stretch to it, You can fit it snuggly to your wrist but without it feeling constrictive. It's not the most attractive watch but it's ideal for sport activities or when you just need a basic, durable watch.

The product states "Extra Long Strap." Not nearly! The watch may be great, but I don't know because it will not fit on my wrist. Maybe it is long enough for a woman, certainly not for a man.

Timex IRONMAN Triathlon 50-Lap Sleek Watch - One Review

Timex IRONMAN Triathlon 50-Lap Sleek Watch - One
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm an Ironman distance triathlete, and I've gone through several Timex Ironman watches. This one, thus far, has been the best Ironman watch I've owned. What attracted me to this watch is the unique black background with the silver display; the display stands out and is very easy to read, whether you're swimming, biking or running. The watch just has a very sleek and sporty look. But beyond the looks, it is also a very functional, and easy to use watch. It has a 50 lap storage capacity, with easy recall. The interval timer, which can be set to run continuously, so that it automatically resets itself to it's preset countdown time, is great for reminding yourself to take in fluid and nutritional needs, at whatever time interval you set it for. The indiglo back light is quite bright, making it very easy to read the display in dark conditions (I do wish the back light would stay lit longer than the quick second or two that it does stay lit, but that's more of a suggestion than a complaint). The only complaint that I do have regarding this watch, is not the watch itself, but the wristband. It's not a solid wristband; it has a lot of spaces, which makes the wristband very prone to wearing out and breaking. And once the wristband breaks, you can't just replace the band, because the band is intergrated into the watch body, so you have to buy a whole new watch. I've had my watch for two years (and have had to replace the battery only twice during that time, which I think is pretty darn good for the amount of use I put my watch through) and my band just now broke, so I'm in the process of searching for another one of these great watches. If Timex would change the design of the wristband, and make the wristband solid, this would be the perfect Ironman triathlon watch (if you don't care about having a watch that is also a heart rate monitor, and I don't). So, the watch itself, I give it 5 stars (more if I could) but because of the poor designed wristband, I've rated the watch, overall, at a four, but don't let that one flaw stop you from owning the best sports watch I've ever had the pleasure of owning. If you want a unique and sporty looking watch that performs at an Ironman level, than this is the watch you're looking for.

This is the best watch for the money. This is my 3rd Ironman 30 Lap. They are virtually indestructible. I only upgrade when the battery gets low after about 4 years. I've tried other watches for a few months between 30 laps, but can't find anything I like as much and keep going back. Thinner than most. Forward and backward setting of times and alarms- you don't have to go 'around the horn' to set your alarm for 10 minutes earlier. Great features, accurate, and tough.

Timex Men's T5H721 Ironman Triathlon Sleek 150-Lap Resin Strap Watch Review

Timex Men's T5H721 Ironman Triathlon Sleek 150-Lap Resin Strap Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The time piece on this watch is great - Lots of functions, durable, easy to read, plenty of lap memory and easy to navigate. HOWEVER, the resin band will tear or fall apart after a couple of years of use, and because the strap is built into the structure of the time piece, it is NOT replaceable. Once the strap tears, the watch is useless to you. I know this because I have already gone through 3 torn watch bands and am now on my 4th version of this watch.
This silver lining I can offer you: Timex will completely replace the watch for only a $10 fee. You mail it in to them asking for a watch band repair (which they charge $10 for) and, because the band is not replaceable, they will simply send you back a brand new watch with equal or similar capabilities. So be forewarned. I have never purchased a Resin Band watch that didn't tear and I have several other running friends who have experienced the same results.

Timex Men's T5E231 Ironman 100-Lap FLIX System Watch Review

Timex Men's T5E231 Ironman 100-Lap FLIX System Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had various incarnations of the Timex Ironman watches over the years. They take a beating and have great functionality. To me, this model has about the best practical value overall, being rather feature-laden without being overcomplicated. One distinct value of this watch over the "sleek" and similar models, is that it does NOT have an integrated band. Sure, integrated bands look cool, but if you wear the watch daily the band will start to break down after about a year and then you have to send it back to Timex for a new band. Not so with this watch. New users will have to take a little time to figure out the various functions of the watch, but once you get the idea, operation is very logical. The stopwatch is great for training, having more laps at your disposal than you're ever likely to need, multiple timers and alarms, and two time zones. These are also useful for training, but also just useful in general life (moreso than you'd think). In all, a solid choice for a digital sports watch, and an excellent value considering Amazon's prices. Highly recommended.
