(More customer reviews)Yes, it is a big, heavy watch. But that's the style these days. I'm 6' tall, 183 pounds, and it suits me fine. The size makes a bold statement on your wrist. It is a way you can have a fashionable watch that actually does something instead of just being big and blingy. It has a nice technical look to it that is nicely offset by the satin-finished stainless steel case and the chocolate-brown leather strap.
I measured the case width at 53 mm and I included the crown in that measurement. The Amazon details and even the Timex website say that it is 50 mm, but I don't think that's quite right. A measurement of 50 mm would be correct only if you didn't include the crown. From what I can tell the crown is generally included in the "case width" or "case diameter" measurement for watches.
I've only had the thing for less than an hour so I can't tell you how well the altimeter remains calibrated. But I read the instructions and set it up fairly easily.
An interesting note about the altimeter. It doesn't remain "on" full-time. You press a button to activate it, and it shows the altitude until you press the button again, or until 60 minutes elapse. So you can't just glance at the watch to see your altitude at any time: you have to press a button first. Not a big deal, but I found it curious. Maybe energy is reuquired in order to show the altitude, and so it is a way of saving battery power??? And actually, even if the altitude is showing, you can't just "glance" at the watch and read the altitude. The markings are small enough that must look carefully. But I doubt that anyone is going to be buying this thing for skydiving, right?!?
I love the orange details on the face/hands/case.
Enjoy.
