(More customer reviews)Nice looking watch and compared to its size, it it not heavy. Note the size is 47 mm which is huge so if you are not looking for sporty oversize watch, this is not for you. Cons - the thickness of the watch surprised me even though I checked a size chart before buying. It has no perpetual calendar (really? In 2010 for this price?) and the manual is written to confuse you (as an example, it says pull the date knob out when you are supposed to unscrew it out. You will figure it out but they don't make it easy for you.)

(More customer reviews)I love this watch and never travel without it. I followed the instructions in the manual and use the thermometer a lot. To get an accurate ambient air temp reading I just take off the watch and wait about 8 minutes in the shade. You can also calibrate the thermometer and found the factory setting to be dead accurate! I discovered that if you read the temp while wearing this watch it will read your skin temp and have found this to be very helpful in monitoring my skin temp. Anything less than a 83 degrees means I am starting to get uncomfortably cold and need to warm up. 86 degrees skin temp is perfect for me. Knowing this allows me to tell if I have a fever or just over worked etc.
I use the altimeter alarm function when I fly to alert me of a faulty cabin pressure system during my commercial flights. I set my PAG 40 alarm to 8000 which is the maximum altitude pressure allowed in passenger cabins set by the FAA. If the cabin pressurization goes above 8000 ft the alarm will sound on the PAG 40. There is a graph at the top of the screen to check your altitude history. The graph is also used for tracking barometer history.
I calibrate my altimeter daily to get an accurate reading since the barameter will change by the hour.
The compass feature is great and you can also calibrate that too. I find the compass usefull at night and on heavy overcast days.
You get 5 seperate alarms and a short alarm for the top of each hour. All the alarms can be turned off or on seperately.
The stopwatch function does split times and single timing. It will not do laptimes for example timing laps at a race on after the other.
It runs on 4 batteries part# 395. Which I was able to change them myself.
Watch speed calibration was also accessible!
The display is large and easy to read.
I have owned my Casio PAG 40 for two years now.
The watch band has held just great so far and the watch is free of defects.
I plan to buy two more of these watches.

(More customer reviews)This is a great watch. About accuracy: After performing the compass calibration, I can say it is fairly accurate. I always get acceptable direction of where the north should be. Temperature is also accurate but it is true, you need to take off the watch for about 10 to 15 min to get a good reading. If not, then you get a constant 31 degrees.
About size, I think it does has a very good size, big numbers, clear display and very nice to press buttons.
Band is resin.
I gave 4 stars because I think alarm is dim but that is just a personal point of view.
Very nice to use. In all, I am happy with my purchase.
Update dic 21 08: Yes, time is display normally in the central area of the screen, where the 330° is shown on picture. This picture here in amazon shows the compass mode. I have added some images for size and display info.

You cannot see it in the pic but the Tochometer and minute rings around are actually higher and not flat with the main inner surface, which changes the looks a bit in real life. I like that color outlay and that leather strap- I will try to post some pics to show it since I could find any images of it before I bought it.
The chronograph feature (three small plates) is great for measuring time intervals and in practice is better that a stopper from me on a digital watch.
One thing that was not mentioned and that takes one star from it- there is no Indiglo light on it. I figure that it would kill the battery very quick since the chronograph must take a lot by itself- the battery life is 2 years. My Perpetual Calendar model had run on one battery for over 5 years before I smashed it accidentally. I can live without it but it should be mentioned since nowadays it is something that you would expect every Timex watch to have.

(More customer reviews)Bought this at the same time as a Casio Databank DB35H model. I like this AQW101 "fishing" watch better and will be using it. Just wish it had the 5 alarms like the databank models...
Pros:
1) Face is much easier to read than the DB35H.
2) The analog hands are nice to have. I find myself glacing at those and being able to read them quicker than the digital display at times.
3) The moon and temperature things are nice novelty items :-)
4) The buttons are easy to work with and so far, no problems with them getting hit by accident.
5) The overall style and finish are excellent, especially for the price.
6) The band is good quality (better than on the cheaper DB35H).
Cons:
None really, but if pressed:
1) Its a bit on the big side. Not a problem unless you're "small boned" - and even then, with the band, it conforms well to the wrist.
2) The temperature measurement is modified by your body heat (about +10F)
3) The analog hands sometime cover up the date/etc.
Sorry - no clue on the fishing prediction accuracy ! :-)

Timex Unisex T49754 Expedition Digital Watch Review

(More customer reviews)I am a daily Timex user and have used the same T53161 for over 7 years. I ordered this one as a replacement because my old watch's Indiglo and audible features wore out after about 5 years. Otherwise It still works after 7 years, 5 new watchbands, 4 DIY battery changes, Many 120+ ft SCUBA dives, daily exposure to sand, dust, machine oil, mechanical vibrations from gunfire, grinders, engines etc. I am retiring this weary soldier to reserve status as soon as I get a replacement. I strongly recommend the T53161 if you are looking at a watch in this category.
I decided to try this T49754 as a replacement. While I am sure the electronic components are of equal quality, this model has a poorly designed crystal and is prone to cracking near the top corners of the Indiglo button. Notice that, unlike the T53161, this watch has the Indiglo button set into the crystal. This means the crystal has sharp interior corners (think stress concentrations, for all you engineers out there). My crystal cracked at the upper left corner of this button within 3 days of normal use. This crack grew out of the corner and is now all the way to the "mode" button. I know now to never buy a watch with buttons sticking out into the crystal
Also, the paint or coating on the housing surrounding the crystal seems like it is latex or rubber based, and it is already peeling off and revealing an unfinished surface beneath. The surface is still a steel gray color, but the peeling looks pretty bad.
Bottom line: Timex - Please don't use sharp interior corners in any of your crystals, they will always crack.

It is a beautiful watch and keeps amazingly precise time; it has 38 jewels, is automatic but can be wound, and my only complaint does not concern the watch but my eyes, being sixty I find it hard to read the day counter, but the whole face is quite legible, and for this reasonable amount for someone wanting a beautifully finished quality automatic watch I recommend it.

Timex Expedition WS4 Widescreen 4-Function Watch (Orange/Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I have been using the balck version of this WS4 watch in Denver, Colorado for a week now and have found the altimeter to be very accurate. I calibrated it at the mile high stairs on the capitol steps elevation marker for 5,280 feet, and drove to Estes Park. At the 2 mile high marker it was only off by 5 feet (should have read 10,560 feet but read 10,565 feet), drove to the gift shop close to 8,000 feet (can not remember the exact elevation) and it was only off by one foot at their elevation sign, and then drove back to the capitol steps in Denver where it was exactly where it should have been at 5,280 feet. Calibrate it on the day of your adventure like you are suppose to and it is very accurate and a pleasure to use.

The watch is easy to read and seems to be fairly accurate. It is somewhat thick so check that out. Thus far I am happy with it. I found a Timex velcro wrist band at Target which allows me to wear the watch as tight or loose as I wish. Seems to be a good product.

(More customer reviews)I bought this watch because I needed a new one and because I was curious about how pressure varies during airplane flights. So far I like all the features of this watch. It tells time quite accurately, is very easy to read in various conditions, and many of its features are intuitive. So far it also seems to be fairly rugged, which was a concern, though for under $100, I am not too concerned, as long as it lasts a few years.
Note that if you are serious about using the altimeter, you must know an accurate starting altitude (to with 10 feet) or the barometric pressue when you start your hike. Otherwise, the watch has no chance of giving accurate altitude readings. In climates that have very frequent pressure changes, you'll need a topographical map or wireless access to the Internet to recalibrate during your hike.

(More customer reviews)I got this watch for a couple of months now and I can say it's a greate time piece. Regarding the feel of wearing it I can say it is a bit heavyer than I expected but it gives you a sense of solidness. I recommend wearing it in casual situations, on a suit it doesn't look great unless you drive a Porsche and for the real mountaineer adventurer it might be too elegant. It is elegant urban watch. The altimeter feature works fine and you don't really need to calibratet that often. The only down side I found is that the strap might be a little fragile for the weight of the watch but maybe that is just me. All in all I recommend itas a great day to day, "a little out of the ordinary" watch.

(More customer reviews)I've been looking for a backlit watch for a while. I previously relied only on my cell phone for time, but eventually I couldn't deny a watch is much more convenient. To further justify the purchase I looked for a durable water resistant watch that does more than just tell time, yet doesn't cost a fortune. This Timex T49686 fits the bill perfectly.
Pros:
* Digital compass. This is the extra feature that makes it more than just another watch.
* Simple, no nonsense styling and colors. It's relatively plain and it's all black (with a little bit of white/silver accents).
* Water resistant to 100m. While I don't plan to dive with it, I can certainly swim with it.
* At 41mm diameter, it's one of the smallest digital compass watches available, if not the smallest. I don't like unnecessarily huge watches.
* Standard 20mm band. If I don't like the band or it breaks, finding replacement is trivial.
* The back of the band is water resistant nubuck leather, so it's quite comfortable to wear.
* Very reasonable price. Fifty bucks is good value considering all the features.
Cons:
* The fabric (outer) side of the band can be made from better material. I got loose threads around the buckle hole after only a week of use. Fortunately I can burn and seal them off with a lighter.
Other thoughts: The watch has been functioning flawlessly for me. I don't see it resetting itself even after many button pushes.
Update:
The compass works, but it's not the most accurate instrument out there. Even the manual says that the accuracy is +/- 10 degrees. I found that it's also extra prone to interference. If all you need is general direction than this will do fine, but if you want precision then get a serious dedicated compass.

Compared to descriptions of other compass watches, I guessed it would be a more reasonably sized watch than one with an altimeter (one reviewer described as very thick). I was very pleased when I opened the box - for a sport watch it was appealing. However, I did have a couple issues that disappointed me. First was the stem coming completely out of the watch and falling on the floor when the little elastic stop (prevents running the battery down before delivery) was removed. I reinserted the stem - turned a couple times - it stayed in and functioned to set the watch, date and compass. I can only assume the water resistant capabilities have not been compromised. Second - calibrating the compass is a chore (to say the least). I finally got it to read somewhat near correct (+/- 30 degrees or so) by starting the calibration process and turning myself in a circle (twice). Overall: keeps time, easy to read at night, and the compass is a nice toy that only provides relative direction.
