The visual bulk of the watch disappears as soon as it's on your wrist; it doesn't sit as high on your wrist as some G shocks tend to and the rubber strap is quite comfy. The buttons on the sides of the Mudman are large but a little stiff due to the one piece construction of the buttons and case to greatly reduce mud from entering inside the case. The shortcoming with the G9000MS-1 model specifically however is the display. Forget about trying to read it in low light conditions at all, and even when there is adequate light, you may find yourself tilting it at just the right angle in order to read the digits. The smaller details of the display such as the alarm indicators are all but impossible to read without the backlight. Once the backlight is activeated, the digital display characters go from a dull red to a bright blue, and the white words around the display are lit up in a bright white. Aesthetically, the blacked out face in combination with the black case, band and metal bits make it fit the theme well. The G9000MS-1 is still as practical and durable as any other G Shock, just expect to get more use out of the backlight.

I wanted a sturdy watch that I wouldn't feel would break if I banged into something. I have several Citizen, Tissot watches that I just felt were to prone to being scratched/destroyed.
I'm very happy with the design/look of this watch. The pictures (as of today) on Amazon are distorted and don't do justice to the look of the watch. While this watch is a very large watch compared to some of the other G's, it feels nice and comfortable on my wrist.
I wanted a watch for functions as well as reliability. With the watch being solar powered, along with an atomic feature makes this watch a must have. The watch has alarm's, timer, dedicated button (the G button) to the light which is very nice (can work in any mode), 2nd time zone, world time, etc.
I've gone through a lot of watches in my time but this by far is one of my favorites and is a must have in your collection if you're looking for a reliable, sturdy, function filled watch!

Since I'm an avid Scuba Diver, I wanted to know if this particular watch can be operated underwater (switching through operations on the watch).

The GW7900B-1 has a water resistance of up to 200M. These models do permit underwater button operation.

(More customer reviews)Alright, I read another review for this item from a customer and evidently he had problems pushing the buttons that are enclosed in a protective coating... Give me a break. If it were easy to push the buttons, I wouldn't want the watch.
This watch is light in weight, but heavy duty. I purchased this watch when a friend of mine that recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq had nothing but praise for it. His withstood the elements of war, so at least I figured mine could withstand all of my outdoor activities.
Set-up is simple and the watch is going to do what I need a watch to do. Last and keep time. I don't enjoy frills of calculators and other garbage they put on a lot of these digital watches, so this is perfect for me.
If you have a weak or limp wrist, this watch isn't the one for you. The buttons take some effort to push, but nothing that's a reason for giving this bad boy a 1-star rating.
