(More customer reviews)When I first got this I was kind of put off by the band. It is velcro. After wearing it about a month I've come to appreciate the velcro as it allows for good adjustment. The dial is nice, with fairly large, brown numerals on a tan background. The illuminator works great. The plastic face cover isn't scratched yet even after a few accidental knocks against it.

(More customer reviews)Top 10 Gadgets of 2009 (Rated #8) according to Time magazine. This is my first G-Shock and first watch with an inverted display. I wanted a sturdy watch that I wouldn't feel would break if I banged into something. I have several Citizen, Tissot watches that I just felt were to prone to being scratched/destroyed.
I'm very happy with the design/look of this watch. The pictures (as of today) on Amazon are distorted and don't do justice to the look of the watch. While this watch is a very large watch compared to some of the other G's, it feels nice and comfortable on my wrist.
I wanted a watch for functions as well as reliability. With the watch being solar powered, along with an atomic feature makes this watch a must have. The watch has alarm's, timer, dedicated button (the G button) to the light which is very nice (can work in any mode), 2nd time zone, world time, etc.
I've gone through a lot of watches in my time but this by far is one of my favorites and is a must have in your collection if you're looking for a reliable, sturdy, function filled watch!

Since I'm an avid Scuba Diver, I wanted to know if this particular watch can be operated underwater (switching through operations on the watch).

Casio Men's GW5600J-1 G-Shock Atomic Tough Solar Watch Review

(More customer reviews)Way back in 1982, I bought one of the first Casio 5000 models. It was incredibly accurate, easy to use, had a countdown timer (which I used a lot) and seemed set to last for ever. In 1988 I crashed my motorcycle, and smashed the crystal on my watch. I threw it in a drawer, bought a new cheap casio (with less functions) and carried on. 3 years later I found the smashed one in the back of the drawer. It was still working and only wrong by 15 seconds! I've had various other watches since then, (really missed the countdown timer), but the Casio G-shocks were all way too thick to suit me. I really fancied the new Solar Powered and Atomic Clock synced Casios, but they were still too thick (and didn't have a countdown timer).
Then I found the GW5600J. Based on the old 5000 series, Atomic, Solar Powered, 5 alarms and a countdown timer, full backlight. And the same style and thickness as my old 5000! Not thin, but not ridiculous either.
I've had it a week now, I love it, I expect it to last the rest of my life (this sucker is tough), and neat, clear, easy to use and accurate!
If you like digital watches (as opposed to analog), this is the one.

(More customer reviews)My girl friend got me this watch about 10 years ago. Mine was not a expansion band so I had to put a bigger one on. The watch all in all held up pretty good. I decided to just get a new watch now that the battery has died but it lasted 10 years. My watch witch is just silver and not 2 tone I would give 4 stars. The Acqua watch is made by Timex and they use a lot of silver brass for the case. After about 8 years around the bottom by the battery case started to oxidize. The indiglo just now went out and the watch started to lose time so it is the battery. If you can find this watch in just silver tone I would highly recommend it. I wore it every day swimming, working on cars and trucks, the lens held up only about 4 small scratches over the years. Also mine had a black face and the indiglo was still nice so in white it would be bright. I just don't know about how good the 2 tone color would hold up.

(More customer reviews)Pros: This watch is quite accurate. I've never had to make any adjustments to it and have been wearing it for nearly two years. Still on the first battery. This watch is also incredibly rugged. I am an active, active outdoor adventurer and have ABUSED this watch. It's never once asked me to ease up on it; it just keeps telling me the time. This includes a couple SCUBA dives.
Cons: The light only lights the small digital display at the bottom of the watch. If, like me, you keep the digital display on the date mode, the night light won't help you much. I don't believe this watch has ever leaked, but if the temperature is cool, this watch fogs up. And finally, if the time is between 25 past the hour and 35 past the hour, don't even think about being able to read the digital display at the bottom; the minute hand WILL obscure your view.
Overall this is a great, rugged watch for the price.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this watch for work and exercising and after using it for a day I'd say it performs admirably; one certainly cannot complain about the price. Shipping wasn't particularly cheap, but Fed Ex 2 day never is. Stopwatch and timer functions work perfectly, but appear limited to 23:59:59 at max. The daylight savings toggle is handy, and Casio allows a one or two button combination to rapidly set the analog dial in increments of about twenty seconds. The alarm is moderately loud, on par with every other Casio I've used. 30 cities to choose from for world time is a nice bonus if you care.
Some annoyances:
The 'illuminator' light ring is VERY poorly designed and appears to consist of two yellow LEDs embedded in a clear plastic ring under the outside edge of the 'crystal'. When in use, analog time is just visible but the recessed LCD screen is totally unusable. If low-light or nighttime use of the stopwatch or timer is important to you buy something with an electroluminescent face instead of this.
The 30 entry data bank function is probably very handy in a pinch, but entering letters and numbers by using the two watch buttons is incredibly slow. Use your cell phone or a little black book.
The numbers on the outside of the dial are redundant with the ticks on the inside of the dial. One or the other would be preferable for aesthetic reasons.
The battery will probably not last nearly ten years if the analog time is adjusted often or the 'illuminator' is used too often.
I prefer leather bands over resin, but that can always be swapped out at a drug store or mega mart.

(More customer reviews)When I opened the package, I was surprised with how this watch looked even better than it did on the web sites. The three small windows on the face are easy to see, but are not as bright as they look in the picture. The silver frame around the face and the hands stand out in a dark background, which is so cool! This watch is not small like baby-G, but is compact and looks like all you need for everyday life is packed inside.
The atomic system and solar power are really convenient as other reviewers describe them, and you don't have to do anything to keep this watch working accurately. I just grab it and put it on my wrist in the morning! Even though it's casual, it can be worn for work as well as recreation. Of course, this is G-Shock, so you don't have to worry about doing damage to it at all, while washing your hands, taking a nap, and even playing sports in the rain!
Personally, I like analog watches better than digital ones because you can quickly see the time in stead of having to picture the clock face in your head. But it's convenient to have digital display, too, to view the exact minutes and seconds. This watch is basically analog, but has digital display, as well, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds! Just a note, this watch doesn't have second hand (but you can see seconds on the digital display), and the minute hand moves every twenty seconds. It's kinda fun to watch.
The only change that I would make is to have the whole face illuminated, including digital display. The LED light only lights up the analog portion of the watch from the bottom of the watch face, and you cannot see the digital display in the dark (You can see the analog portion clearly without any trouble). So you shouldn't expect to set the alarm in the dark.
But over all, I'm quite satisfied with this watch and would recommend it to anyone looking for a tough, reliable, and good looking timepiece.

2. Case of watch is not completely stainless steel, lower part is resin. In my last casio the resin clasp for the watch band broke. I bought this because I thought it would be stainless steel, but its not really.
3. The mineral dial cover is convex, so it will pick up scratches (like my last casio). I prefer flat watches
4. The watch is thick (say 3/60")

(More customer reviews)This is the 3rd Casio I buy in the last year... and the cheapest. I previously tried the G601-1AV and later the GW1300A-9AV, both of the G-Shock family. However, I was looking for one with analog and digital time, but easy to read and with night illumination. The G601 is nice, but the small rounded digital displays are a bit too small for my old eyes, and the night illumination is only for the digital displays!. Then I bought the GW1300 because it was advertised as having two LEDs that illuminated the whole face of the watch and was solar powered. True! but... the design is such that when the face is illuminated in the dark, it is so full of shiny surfaces and reflections that you can hardly distinguish the analog hands, and nothing of the digital displays. So, I kept looking and finally decided on this one, the AQ160W with not too much hope... and voila! it was perfect for me! Thinner than the G-Shocks and very light weight, the digital displays are big and easy to read, even if the hands are over them (the digits look gold on day light, very nice, not like the picture here which shows how it looks when the green back light is on). The backlight, with optional auto turn-on, is perfectly readable, and you can see, besides the big numbers, the silhouette of the analog hands over the background. I am ready to give up the 200m water resist, the solar power, the waveceptor auto time set, the automatic handles setting by the digital clock, all for the good design of this watch. It would be perfect if Casio added to this one the solar power and the auto setting of the analog clock. The dual world time, auto calendar, chronometer, timer, multiple alarms, are all common features of these watches however.
The only drawback for me is the extremely thin resin band, which being very confortable, does not look long lasting. I hope I can find replacements in the future.
Anyway, great watch! My search is over...
(I must say that this search would have been much easier if I had the chance to try these watches in a local store before buying, but none of these models were available where I live.)
Update 26/Oct/2009: After 2 years of almost continuous use, the battery still works and the resin band, though not looking like new anymore, has no sign of deterioration. I was wrong thinking that it would break easily. Great watch!
Update July 2010: the battery refuses to die... the resin band has no sign of cracks... so what can I say? The backlight is dimmer though, so I am buying a new one soon. I definitively recommend it.

I replaced it simply because I got bored of it.
I have loved Casio watches because they simply never stop working.
The DBE30-1AV is a very good watch for the price. This is the kind of watch for the people
who are obsessed with ultra-efficiency. The watch switches itself off to save power
when kept motionless in dark. When you pick it up and wear it, it switches on automatically
without having to press any buttons.
It is Solar, so you will never have to replace batteries. It has a backup battery which
runs for 6 months. The backup battery will be used only when you dont see the sunlight for
a few days.
This watch has all the features (stop watch, databank, night light, international time and so on)
that you might normally need. You will not need any more features unless you plan to climb the
Everest (Some watches have a thermometer, pressure guage, altimeter and even a
tv remote control...really!)
This watch looks good and is quite tough. When solar watches first came into the market,
they were very fragile and quite inefficient. Not so any more.
The technology has vastly improved.
This watch is Made in China. In earlier days Casio watches were Made in Japan.
I found this watch to be of the same quality.
The only thing that I do not like about Casio watches is that the strap breaks after a
period of time.

Casio Men's MTG920DA-1 G-Shock MT-G Atomic Solar Watch Review

(More customer reviews)The strap/links on these G-Shocks are quite oversized: when I first got it, I could fit the watch around my legs! (You'll most likely have to get the links adjusted). Ironically, the four side buttons on the watch is small. So even if you have a huge wrist, you'll probably have trouble pressing the buttons! (Not for huge fingers)
***BEWARE*** the picture shows the four side buttons on the watch in silver, but the left and right side buttons on this model is actually plain black! It is quite misleading! The silver side button is actually the MTG920DJ model (which is the 2005 version). According to Casio, the MTG920DA was actually released in 2004 with black side buttons. If you search the Casio website, it will only display the MTG920DJ (their most recent version); most websites that still sell the MTG920DA are just taking the latest MTG920DJ version picture from Casio's website. The MTG920DJ seems to have the same features as this one (MTG920DA), except the four side (left and right) buttons are in silver.
For those of you wondering about the three circles on the watch:
the first one on the very left is basically a wannabe-analog display - basically, every five minutes, a bar increases (or decreases when it gets full); it's just mostly there for cosmetic reasons.
The second one in the middle is the battery status; it has an L (Low), M (Medium), and H (High) and the bar would display in one of those areas. If you get out in the sun a lot or know an area in your home where the sun shines a lot, then you won't have a problem with the battery ever going below High. Moreover, it has a power saving feature; the watch will go into sleep mode (display off) when it is in a completely dark area for a long time.
Finally, the third circle on the very right is where it tells you what options are enabled/disabled. It shows SPL (split time for stopwatch), DST (Daylight Saving Time), SIG (Hourly Signal), ALM (Alarm), SNZ (Snooze), and Auto EL (Automatic Electro-Luminescent backlight - the backlight turns on by tilting it a certain degree towards your face without having to manually press the backlight button.)
Keep in mind, synchronizing with the atomic signal is not instant: it usually takes around 3 minutes (at least for me, I live in California.) And if you're in a busy area or near an electronic, it might be difficult; try again or move to a different area. Moreover, it should show you the strength/level (4 levels) of the signal (while you're synchronizing) with a satellite icon on the watch. There is also a feature that automatically synchornizes for you while you're sleeping at 2:00AM, 3:00AM, 4:00AM, and 5:00AM. Therefore, it's not always necessary to syncronize it yourself because by the time you wake up, it should be ready to go.
Overall, this watch is attractive and fun to wear. The atomic radio signal feature is very cool; having the official time is great - right to the precise second! I've had this watch for months now, and I enjoy wearing it daily.
This watch does have a lot of feature - except, it's a pity it does ***NOT*** have a countdown timer!
Pros:
- Cool design
- Water/scratch resistant; G-Shock are known for their toughest watches. (Update: I've worn this watch daily for almost a year and a half now and not a single scratch - still looks brand new!)
- Solar Power; battery life is excellent; never had the power ever go below High. Power Saving Feature.
- Position of the time and date is easy to read at one glance.
- Metal strap
- Can display World Time with Local Time
Cons:
- The side buttons are small and tight to press (must use like the very tip of the fingers)
- Atomic signal takes too long manually, and it usually is not possible to synchronize while wearing the watch; if you're inside the home, it is usually best to take off the watch and leave it near a window.
- Alarm beep can be a little longer perhaps (even my inexpensive Timex Watch would beep and it would gradually beep faster, which I actually like a bit better.)
- No countdown timer. (How could they forget this?!)
Also, try to research other models instead of finding out the hard way (like I did about the side buttons) before purchasing.

(More customer reviews)I got this watch for a couple of months now and I can say it's a greate time piece. Regarding the feel of wearing it I can say it is a bit heavyer than I expected but it gives you a sense of solidness. I recommend wearing it in casual situations, on a suit it doesn't look great unless you drive a Porsche and for the real mountaineer adventurer it might be too elegant. It is elegant urban watch. The altimeter feature works fine and you don't really need to calibratet that often. The only down side I found is that the strap might be a little fragile for the weight of the watch but maybe that is just me. All in all I recommend itas a great day to day, "a little out of the ordinary" watch.

(More customer reviews)This watch has a whole lot of amazing features. To start off, it's solar powered! Solar collectors around the watch face recharge it's battery during the day. I love that it's got Analog stylings but the added option of Digital time keeping. It has glow in the dark numbers for 12, 9, and 3 along with back-lighting of the digital screen. There's more interesting features though. A couple of features you won't find on your average watch are it's power save mode, and it's auto-back-lighting feature.
The Auto Light Switch is controlled by a couple sensors which detect when you've raised your wrist to look at the watch and what the availble light is. If this feature is enabled, and it's dark, and you tilt your wrist to see the time the back light turns on and illuminates the digital readout auto matically.
The Power Save mode will conserve power during the night by putting the watch into a "sleep" mode just like computers have to conserve power. During the day it draws power from the sun to recharge it's internal battery so power save mode only activates during the night. The watch will awaken automatically for a ton of different reasons. Touch a button, tilt your wrist, or move to a lighted area, or just by the time of day progressing awakens the watch.
The worst things about the watch are that it tends to get scratched. I hear that car polish can rejuvinate the face of the watch, and I'm going to try something like that to fix some small scratches mine recieved. Also, the rubber band will wear out after heavy use. I'm the type that almost never takes off their watch for long. However, I do tend to take it off frequently for short periods to let my skin breathe. I wear it so much my skin under the plastic band has it pretty rough, but this is true with all watches of this type. I think the heavy use is the biggest the cause of the wear on the band, but the plastic may be slightly weaker than average in an attempt to make it more soft and comfortable. The final negative aspect I can think of is that only the digital portion features back-lighting, not the full face. Wait one more thing, the standard digital functions are lacking a count down feature, so if you're expecting that, you're out of luck.
The positives far out way the negatives for me though. This is one of the coolest watches I've ever seen! I love analog/digital watches. I think they merge style and function best, giving me the flexibility to read either indication of time depending on what I'm in the mood for. I think that this watch especially has great style and looks to it. The only thing that could make it better for me would be if it featured some sort of titanium watch band or something. This is an awesome watch and if you like the looks and you like the features I've mentioned then you'll probably really like this watch. It's got everything, including a standard set of watch functions that like every Casio digital watch has so I won't bore you with those. This is a great watch for any techie type that likes nifty gadgets!
