(More customer reviews)Don't be misled by the dates on the battery packaging, which refer to copyright or something. These batteries are very fresh (patiently explained by the seller and confirmed by a call to Energizer). The only apparent reference I could find to date of manufacture at first was on the back side (2006), but now I know that the date code is actually a 2-letter code also found on the back. In my case, the code was MI (Dec. 2009 according to Energizer). I'm sure I'm not the only buyer who's been thrown off by this labeling convention. The bottom line: no worries re: freshness with this seller!

Don't listen to the Timex mantra of "Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'..." One lick and the tick stops. Very disappointing.

Whether training for a 10K race or exercising to lose some of that spare tire, this Timex digital watch (model 54212) includes a personal heart rate monitor that will help you make the most of your training. The included heart rate sensor strap is nicely lightweight and fits comfortably around your chest. It provides continuous heart rate monitoring--at rest, play, or during workout--and recall of average, peak, and minimum heart rate (for workout). It also includes a target alarm feature, which enables you to specify a heart rate exercise zone. The watch will alert you when you go above or below that target zone.
It offers simple, one-button operation and a large, easy-to-read digital display. It also features 12/24-hour and month/date displays as well as Indiglo backlighting. The watch has a 1.5-year battery life, while the sensor has a 2-year battery life. Both provide water resistance to 30 meters (99 feet).
The Indiglo night-light uniformly lights the surface of the watch dial using patented blue electroluminescent lighting technology. It uses less battery power than most other watch illumination systems, enabling your watch battery to last longer.

(More customer reviews)I have been using Timex Ironman watches for more than 20 years. I love them and never wear anything else.
I bought this one for two reasons:
1.) The display is big and easier to read during workouts than some of my other watches;
2.) I like new gadgets.
I took the watch for my first swim workout and during a 2,000 yard swim, the stopwatch randomly recorded a split 87 times. Sometimes, it would record a split every 5-10 seconds, for no reason.
I attribute this to either the tap screen being defective or there is a small leak in the watch, which will eventually destroy the watch.
Otherwise, the watch is just about like every other Ironman watch, though I really do like the large display and the tap-screen function is kind of cool and allows for mindless split recording in the middle of a workout or a race.
I have contacted the seller for a replacement and will post an update when I get a new one.
***MARCH 13, 2010 UPDATE***
I received my second watch from the seller. It too has the same flaw. As I told them in an email - Timex has a fundamental design flaw with the Tap Screen: Even at the highest tap setting, when you swim, unless you place your arm gently in the water on each swim stroke, it records that stroke as a tap i.e. a lap. Obviously, this is useless to a triathlete.
I actually live about 15 miles from Timex headquarters. It is a great company, with great people. Timex supports local races that I compete in and I have nothing bad to say about it as a company. I just can't believe that it would release a watch for TRIATHLETES that does not work in the water. It took me exactly five minutes each with two separate watches to determine that the tap screen technology is flawed. How did this product ever make it out of testing???
This is simply an unfortunate mistake by Timex.
If you are just running and/or biking, the watch may be OK. If you are a triathlete, avoid this watch like the plague. I just wish I could give it zero stars.***MARCH 27, 2010 UPDATE***
The seller of this product - Clever Training - is great. They were very cooperative and after the second watch was returned, issued a full refund. I would definitely do business with them again. (Though I think Timex should reimburse me for the shipping charges to send back two of their defective watches.)

(More customer reviews)UPDATE: I bought a second one after the band on the first one started to fray. Now I know why. I have been swimming at a friend's house the last couple of summers. This past summer, I swam with the new watch. The band looked shabby after only a couple of visits. I have now ordered a Casio with a resin band. So, be advised, although the features are great on this Timex, the band does not hold up to even a minimum of water-wear.
Original review: I have had this watch for years and have used the timer hundreds, if not thousands of times for everything from timed croquet matches to cooking thin spaghetti. Once you get the functions ingrained in your brain (they're as simple as they can be) it takes only a few seconds to set a timer. I'm surprised at how many things I use it for.
What do you want in a watch? It should tell time accurately. Check. Easy to read. Check. Display the date. Check. Work in the dark. Check. Have other useful functions that don't clutter things up. Check. Band that isn't annoying to manipulate. Check. Comfortable. Check. Good looking. Check (IMHO). Long-lasting. Check. Waterproof. Check (I swim with it on). Audible alarm. Check. Three alarms! Check. Inexpensive. Check. Durable. Check.
If you like the look and the features, just buy it.

(More customer reviews)I bought this watch for my wife and her marathon running, she absolutely adores it! Once we set all the calculations it's a flawless piece. We did all the measuring for walk, jog & run stride lengths and steps per minute for each as well (which is a bit painstaking taking up to 15 minutes of your time...a whole 15 minutes, geez) she never has to worry about it being off ever again...and me being rather anal I even checked distances against it on my bike, car and web, perfect! I highly recommend you do this for accuracy. Like Ron says..."set it and forget it!"
Now, as to what everyone else is complaining about..."too big" I just have to say "HUH"? Have you looked at watches these days? THIS is too BIG? Something from Alice in Wonderland is too big. It does have a large face, though no bigger than my sport or designer watches, I don't know what these sporty people expect to be able to read on a smaller face while jogging & swimming. You know this is for outdoors, right, not exquisite dining at the White House?
Other complaints seem to be "user error" not the watches, I don't see your reviews as helpful for or against.
My wife and I highly recommend this watch for runners who want to concentrate on your run and not counting or checking your watch. She's had several pedometers in the past and they all died quickly or were inaccurate that I though I'd step it up a notch for her with this, boy did I ever. She now says she enjoys her "worry free runs".
