(More customer reviews)This watch is a real deal. It is rugged and dependable, waterproof, and very comfortable. It's very lightweight and is noiseless, so you don't have to worry about a jingle alerting whatever quarry you're hunting. The watch is attached to the band via an elastic shock-strap that prevents sudden impacts from ripping it off the band. All in all, a very effective design.
The "quick date" function assumes there are 31 days in every month, so after the shorter months you need to adjust forward a day or two for it to be correct. This is no big deal, and is common to most analog watches with this feature.
My personal experiences with this watch have taken it hunting in all corners of the backwoods of Kentucky, as well as backpacking through the smokies and the titons. It has proven to be extraordinarily tough. I had had problems with other watches with the watch coming separated from the band after a tug or strong bump (such as taking off a rucksack and having it's strap catch on the watch bezel), but the elastic loaded shock attachment on this Timex seems to have eliminated those problems.
The only down side to this watch that I have found is that the bright-white watch face is quite noticeable at a distance in the woods. So if you plan to take this watch hunting then make sure it's under a sleeve cuff or it could quite easily give you away. Otherwise the white face contributes to readability, even for those whose eyesight isn't quite what it used to be.
If you're looking for an analog, easy to read watch that is tough enough to match your lifestyle, then this just might be the pick.

(More customer reviews)This is a great watch. About accuracy: After performing the compass calibration, I can say it is fairly accurate. I always get acceptable direction of where the north should be. Temperature is also accurate but it is true, you need to take off the watch for about 10 to 15 min to get a good reading. If not, then you get a constant 31 degrees.
About size, I think it does has a very good size, big numbers, clear display and very nice to press buttons.
Band is resin.
I gave 4 stars because I think alarm is dim but that is just a personal point of view.
Very nice to use. In all, I am happy with my purchase.
Update dic 21 08: Yes, time is display normally in the central area of the screen, where the 330° is shown on picture. This picture here in amazon shows the compass mode. I have added some images for size and display info.

(More customer reviews)This watch is an excellent every day watch for someone who wants an affordable watch that they can wear to work or to the park. With its chronograph styling, dark resin band, and classic sizing (I think it's ~38mm diameter and not too thick, though as I recently lost mine I can't be sure), it definitely will give the impression that you are wearing a much more expensive watch. When I used to wear it, I got compliments on it all the time and cost estimates in the hundreds =D.
However, don't be fooled by the "multifunction watch" title. The sub-dials show day/date/24-hour time, and that's it--no dual time, no stopwatch, it's not a digital watch replacement. The second markings aren't clear or accurate enough for you to really time anything. This was mostly fine for me but I found myself occasionally missing those functions. What I personally found most annoying, however, was the choice of mineral crystal as the watch window material, a poor compromise between acrylic and sapphire glass. Harder than acrylic, but way softer than sapphire, it still scratches fairly easily for a "beater" watch but you don't have the option of easily buffing it out.

The watch has Indiglo backlight in which the whole face lights up in a blue-green color so that you see silhouettes of the hands and numbers. The digital display inversely lights up (the numbers light up rather than the whole display). I've found the watch to decently comfortable to wear, though because the straps are simply held in and swivel on the pins, it tends to rotate around my wrist rather than stay in one spot. Also, the acrylic window just barely sticks out above the bezel, so it's relatively easy to scratch and scuff by accident. Lastly, the watch that I have ticks much louder than I expected - at arm's length I can hear the tick of the second hand.

Timex Unisex T49754 Expedition Digital Watch Review

(More customer reviews)I am a daily Timex user and have used the same T53161 for over 7 years. I ordered this one as a replacement because my old watch's Indiglo and audible features wore out after about 5 years. Otherwise It still works after 7 years, 5 new watchbands, 4 DIY battery changes, Many 120+ ft SCUBA dives, daily exposure to sand, dust, machine oil, mechanical vibrations from gunfire, grinders, engines etc. I am retiring this weary soldier to reserve status as soon as I get a replacement. I strongly recommend the T53161 if you are looking at a watch in this category.
I decided to try this T49754 as a replacement. While I am sure the electronic components are of equal quality, this model has a poorly designed crystal and is prone to cracking near the top corners of the Indiglo button. Notice that, unlike the T53161, this watch has the Indiglo button set into the crystal. This means the crystal has sharp interior corners (think stress concentrations, for all you engineers out there). My crystal cracked at the upper left corner of this button within 3 days of normal use. This crack grew out of the corner and is now all the way to the "mode" button. I know now to never buy a watch with buttons sticking out into the crystal
Also, the paint or coating on the housing surrounding the crystal seems like it is latex or rubber based, and it is already peeling off and revealing an unfinished surface beneath. The surface is still a steel gray color, but the peeling looks pretty bad.
Bottom line: Timex - Please don't use sharp interior corners in any of your crystals, they will always crack.

(More customer reviews)THis watch closely resembles the Expedition #T40051, with some alterations to the face, such as the placement of the Date window, but is very sturdy and reliable and the band is a joy.
Here in the heat of the desert those cheap resin bands (casio style etc.) get filled with my own slough and I hate such reminders of my own mortality. Those rubbery bands just do not breathe, and so I appreciate very much these thick (won't tear when caught on fencing, etc.) real leather bands. The crystal is also thick and can resist falling rocks and such, and the overall feel is very high quality and durable.
My only gripe is that I received it at the end of the month and tried to advance the date window from three to thirty and think I wore out the stem. SO if you get one, activate it by pulling out the little plastic tab on the date the window reads, or forget the window altogether, which is what everyone does anyway, as it is too small to read in any watch.
I love the traditional clock face, with the handy backlight, which makes the time very visible at night outside or in bed or at vigils long before dawn.
And of course, the Irish green is the only way to go!
Very comfortable and rugged and solid. A good watch.

Timex Men's T49699 Analog Stainless Steel Leather Strap Expedition Watch Review

(More customer reviews)I had a previous Timex Expedition watch which I loved tremendously, but its strap was getting worn out and I couldn't find a similar replacement, short of buying an identical model, so I decided to get this instead. From the photos provided on Amazon, the watch seemed pretty unique, what with the brownish tint to the stainless steel cover, and its green interface. It's a darn cool watch in my opinion. The watch arrived as shown in the photo, I was a bit worried about the cover as photos of the same model on other sites showed a normal stainless steel cover, but that wasn't truly the case. I guess it was most probably the angle of the light hitting the watch when the photo was taken. From some angles it looked like normal steel, but from others, the brownish tint is fairly evident. My girlfriend was pretty impressed with the watch, especially with its price too. Not to mention the Indiglo feature, it really lit up the screen in total darkness.
The brown strap is one of the most comfortable leather straps I've tried on. I don't usually go for leather straps as they can often be hard and too rigid for my liking, but that's definitely not the case with this model. The strap is soft and mallable, fitting my small-sized wrist perfectly. The watch diameter is just perfect, large enough but not ostentious. The ticking of the watch was regular and not too loud, some Timex models have pretty loud ticking, but not this watch. All in all, I would recommend giving this watch a go if you're looking for something different!

My only real complaint is that to change the date you have to wind it round and round for 24 times to move one day. It dosnt have the feature where you can change the date by itself. So the winding is annoying but you only have to do it once a month.

Timex Men's T43101 Expedition Aluminum Trail Analog White Dial Watch Review

(More customer reviews)I love this watch. I bought a previous version of it in a department store about 8 years ago. The original watch is still working, but after 8 years of rugged outdoor use the band is almost worn through, the crystal had been scratched quite a bit, and paint is wearing off of the bezel. When it came time to replace the battery I decided to replace the whole watch instead, and was delighted to learn that it was still being sold. The only differences I notice with the new watch are that the band is a lighter shade of brown and it is MUCH easier to advance the date at the end of a month having fewer than 31 days. The face is easily read in the dark with a press of the dial. This is the only watch I wear, and I expect to be wearing it for at least another 8 years.

The other watches were "water resistant" but I found out that the water resistance went out the window once the seal was broken by replacing the battery which always seemed to be needed sooner than I expected. Since this is a solar watch I do not expect to have to replace the battery (and break the seal) for years. It was charged and at the correct time out of the box. It automatically resets the time every day from a signal in Fort Collins, CO. (No problem in IN) which is supposed to cover all of the USA. It also adjusted automatically to DST. In addition it has 5 alarms which are easy to set so I have used them through the day as reminders. The weak "link" so to speak may be the plastic band. It will likely break before the watch and I'm not sure it can be replaced.

(More customer reviews)I've had this watch for almost 4 years. I wear it to work, work on my car with it, and wear it as a "beater" watch. It has scratches and a couple of small dings, but works perfectly. It's still on the same battery. The steel bracelet has become difficult to lock down, but still does. The luminous paint is not bright, but the Indiglo light is fabulous! Even though it's only water resistant to 50 meters, I've been swimming with it once. You should not swim with a watch that's less than 100 meters. When you move your arm under water fast, you're putting alot of water pressure on the watch. For $30-35, you will get your money's worth.

Timex Men's T44642 Metal Analog and Digital Combo Watch Review

(More customer reviews)I generally like the Timex Expedition series because they have both an alarm and a light on an analog watch.
I had an older Timex Expedition that had a rotating ring around the face. This ring was used to set the time and the alarm, and was very simple and quick to use. Just spin the ring to the alarm time, and pull out the crown to set the alarm. There was also a nice feature that would let you set an alarm for up to 1 hour from now, which was nice for setting timers for cooking, etc., without having to set the 12 hour alarm.
On this new watch, there is both an analog face and a digital display as well. I had hoped that they would be synchronized with each other. However, there is no connection between the two parts. The time must be set twice, once for analog using the crown, and once for digital using the buttons, and they do not necessarily stay in sync. I had hoped that you would use the crown to set both the analog and digital times at the same time. Also, the alarm is only settable on the digital part, using the buttons. The procedure for setting the digital alarm is hard to remember how to do, since I don't do it every day. I also miss the "under 1 hour" alarm feature from my old Timex.

The backlight is adequate and the alarm is loud enough to wake you up. The only reason i didnt give this watch a 5 is beacuse of the strap. Though a nylon strap feels good, its not my preferred choice.
But you can always replace the strap to any material you want afterwards, which i intend to do. Timex watches are always known for their long battery life and this watch doesnt dissapoint. I recommend this watch to anyone who likes adventure gear.
